Patrick Jennings grew up in Bloomington, Illinois, where he excelled as a top junior tennis player, winning two high school state doubles titles and one summer state singles title before receiving an athletic scholarship to the University of Oregon. He began teaching while still in high school, working for his legendary coach at Barry Nixon Tennis Camps on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University and as a part-time pro for Evergreen Racquet Club. Jennings played number one singles and doubles at Oregon, earning All American, PAC 10 Co-Player of the Year, and Oregon Student Athlete of the Year honors before graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1989. While at Oregon, he worked for Coach Buzz Summers at his University camps and taught privately in Eugene.
Jennings moved to New York City after college and spent five years in book publishing before returning to the court as a full-time teaching pro at Crosstown Tennis. Quickly building one of the largest clienteles in Manhattan, Jennings moved his business to the UN Plaza Hotel following the closure of Crosstown. He relocated to Los Angeles from New York in 2004 with his wife, renown restauranteur, Li Ping, and started a successful thirteen-year run teaching at Beverly Hills Tennis. In 2015, Jennings and Ping purchased a second home in Portland, dividing their time between Portland and Los Angeles. They have increasingly transitioned to the Pacific Northwest and now live here full time.
Patrick brings a depth of experience, excellent communication of instruction, and a strong desire to attract players and make an impact at our club.
